Latest Mydoom shows hackers using search engines for attacks
Last week's Mydoom worm variant is the latest example of how some hackers are using search engines to spread worms, find easily exploitable targets and unearth vulnerability information for launching attacks (see story).
The Mydoom.be @MM worm first discovered on Feb. 20 was a mass-mailing worm that used its own SMTP engine to send e-mails to addresses it gathered from compromised computers. The worm was also programmed to harvest e-mail addresses from search engines such as Google, AltaVista and Lycos and then use them to distribute itself further.

Apple unveils more iPods
Apple Computer Inc. introduced new versions of its hugely popular iPod on Wednesday.
The No. 1 seller of portable digital music players introduced a six-gigabyte iPod mini and 30- and 60-gigabyte models of the iPod photo with a color screen.

Russian Scientists Develop Tablet to Prolong Drunkeness
Russian scientists have developed a product that can keep a person drunk, Britain’s Daily Telegraph wrote.
The tablet called RU-21 Red was developed in Spirit Sciences, a laboratory based in California but with research facilities in Russia. The same scientists had earlier worked on secret programs for the Kremlin and had made the famous RU-21 product that cures hangovers.

Thieves steal swimming pool
A Norwegian family's swimming pool wasn't just bolted down, it was in the ground. But that wasn't impediment to a band of determined thieves.
When the Nicolaysen family visited their mountain cabin over the weekend, they discovered a big hole in the yard in place of the swimming pool that had been installed 20 years ago.

Students organise funeral for a dead squirrel
A BIZARRE ceremony was held in High Wycombe as students paid their last respects to a dead squirrel.
The funeral at Buckinghamshire Chiltern University College campus, in Queen Alexandra Road, on Wednesday, was organised by June Kingsbury, an MA student studying ceramics and glass.

Ostsee so gut wie tot
Nach den Rekordtemperaturen in Grönland kommt nun die nächste Hiobsbotschaft in Sachen Ökologie: Die Ostsee ist wahrscheinlich bereits "gekippt", schlagen Forscher Alarm. Umweltmaßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Wasserqualität hätten nichts genutzt, so Umweltexperten der schwedischen Regierung. Man werde sich an Badebuchten voll mit schleimigen Algen und eine permanente Fischereikrise gewöhnen müssen. International wird unterdessen vor einer weiteren Klimaerwärmung gewarnt: 2005 soll ein "heißes" Jahr werden.

Gefrorener See auf dem Mars gefunden
Europäische Wissenschaftler haben die Entdeckung eines gefrorenen Sees auf dem Mars bestätigt. Die Esa-Sonde "Mars Express" hat riesige Packeis-Schollen fotografiert, die auf ein 45 Meter tiefes gefrorenes Gewässer von der Größe der Nordsee schließen lassen.
