Microsoft to give governments advance security info
Microsoft is starting a new effort targeted at governments that may be contemplating a move in the direction of open source. Called the Security Cooperation Program, the initiative will give participating government agencies advance notice on security patches, meaning that they will be notified of existing security flaws prior to the general public. Microsoft will also give advice on network security issues.

Festival show for Baghdad Blogger
A film based on the internet musings of the "Baghdad Blogger" has been shown at the Rotterdam Film Festival.
The film has been directed by the man who calls himself Salam Pax, the author of the weblog about Iraqi life during and after the war.
The movie version comes in the form of a series of shorts made by Pax on a hand-held camera.

Unter video.google.com bietet Google die Möglichkeit, das amerikanische TV-Programm zu durchsuchen. Die Auswahl der Sender ist derzeit noch begrenzt und das Archiv geht nur bis Ende Dezember 2004 zurück, lässt aber trotzdem schon einen tiefen Blick in die kommenden Funktionen zu.

A celebrated Berlin prostitute said Monday that German job center advisers shouldn't shy away from offering jobs in the sex industry to the long-term unemployed.
Molly Luft, who sold her famous Berlin brothel two months ago and now runs a bar in the city's lively Kreuzberg district, said the sex industry was always looking for new recruits.

Microsoft's leafy corporate campus in Redmond, Washington, is beginning to look like the streets of New York, London and just about everywhere else: Wherever you go, white headphones dangle from peoples' ears.
To the growing frustration and annoyance of Microsoft's management, Apple Computer's iPod is wildly popular among Microsoft's workers.
"About 80 percent of Microsoft employees who have a portable music player have an iPod," said one source, a high-level manager who asked to remain anonymous. "It's pretty staggering."

Plane Skids Off Runway, Crashes in N.J.
A corporate jet hurtled off the end of an airport runway Wednesday while attempting to take off, speeding across a highway and striking two cars before slamming into a warehouse. About 15 people were injured, one critically, but nobody was killed, officials said.

Austrians dominate Empire State run, eldest entrant steps on
The returning champions from Austria have both posted remarkable victories in the Empire State Building Run-Up, while the Big Apple's favourite social climber shined again at age 93 in the 28th annual race.
Rudolf Reitberger won the closest Empire race ever and Andrea Mayr became the first woman to break the 12-minute barrier with a winning time of 11:51 despite wearing a cast for a broken wrist.

Model gets millions for coffee mug shot
A California jury has ordered Nestle USA to pay nearly $16 million (8.5 million pounds) to a model whose face appeared on Taster's Choice coffee labels in 18 countries for six years without his knowledge, his lawyer says.
Model-actor Russell Christoff, 58, had no idea of his fame among the instant java set until 2002, when a woman at a store remarked on his resemblance to the smiling man on the Taster's Choice jar, Christoff's attorney, Colin Claxon, said.
