The Sunbird Project

The Sunbird Project is a redesign of the Mozilla Calendar component. Our goal is to produce a cross platform standalone calendar application based on Mozilla's XUL user interface language. At the moment the "Sunbird" name is a project name. It is not official and may change in the future.

Our intended user is someone who uses Mozilla Firefox (or another browser) as his browser, Mozilla Thunderbird (or another mail client) as his mail client and wants a calendar application based on Mozilla.

World's Largest Working Computing Grid

This week, UK particle physicists will demonstrate the world's largest, working computing Grid. With over 6,000 computers at 78 sites internationally, the Large Hadron Collider Computing Grid (LCG) is the first permanent, worldwide Grid for doing real science. The UK is a major part of LCG, providing more than 1,000 computers in 12 sites. At the 2004 UK e-Science All Hands Meeting in Nottingham, particle physicists representing a collaboration of 20 UK institutions will explain to biologists, chemists and computer scientists how they reached this milestone.

Video shows trooper is surprised by Al Gore

One month ago Oregon State Trooper Eric Tholberg made another routine traffic stop, yet what Tholberg did not know at the time was the man behind the wheel would not be in the position of getting a speeding ticket if the presidential election had gone differently in 2000.

Al Gore never had a chance to be president; so he stepped from the national spotlight back into normal American life, which includes speeding tickets.

Lesbian cow study udderly serious

THE lesbian love life of domestic cattle has prompted a fact-finding mission to Malaysia's central highlands to study the world's last remaining herd of wild cattle.

Australia's only professor of animal welfare, Clive Phillips from the University of Queensland, is hoping a basic study of Malaysia's endangered Gaur cattle will help explain why domestic cows mount each other during fertile periods.

Music Fans, Beware the Big Bass

Blasting music can be hard on the ears and the neighbors, and now researchers say it can also pack enough punch to collapse a lung.

Reporting in the medical journal Thorax, they describe the cases of four young men who suffered a lung collapse -- technically called pneumothorax -- that appeared to be triggered by loud music. Three of the men were at a concert or club when the pneumothorax occurred, while the fourth was in his car, which was outfitted with a 1,000-watt bass box because he "liked to listen to loud music."
