Giant toilet raises eyebrows in Berlin


A giant plastic toilet bowl on Berlin's swank Unter den Linden boulevard, the work of a French artist, has been raising more than a few eyebrows in recent days. The still-unfinished white toilet, some 2.5 metres (eight feet) high, is part of a series of nine giant art works due to feature on the central Berlin artery this weekend in a collection called "RefleCity", by Armel Reau.

School mistakes student's hometown for drug reference


The town of Hempstead, N.Y., has a message for Gwinnett County school administrators: Before you target a student wearing a Hempstead shirt, look at a map.

Terrell Jones, a student in Gwinnett County's Grayson High School, was weeded out of a classroom by a school administrator because he wore a shirt that read: "Hempstead, NY 516," a reference to the Long Island town and its telephone area code.

Woman ships herself to U.S.


An air-freighted refugee is being allowed to stay in the U.S.

The Cuban woman shipped herself from the Bahamas to Miami in a crate about the size of a small filing cabinet.

A DHL cargo crew found the woman curled up inside the box, after it was unloaded at Miami International Airport. She didn't require any medical treatment.

Squirrel Blamed for Outage, Traffic Jam


A hungry squirrel has been blamed for a power outage that snarled rush-hour traffic in this city north of Portland, Ore.

Electricity was cut for about an hour Wednesday morning to about 5,145 residential and business customers after the rodent caused a short circuit at a substation.

Man Stabs 6-Foot Gator to Free His Dog


A man stabbed a 6-foot alligator with a pocketknife after the reptile grabbed his dog by the head, and managed to scare off the reptile.

Matthew Goff, 29, said he was walking his dog Sugar, a tan-colored bloodhound/Shar-Pei mix, Wednesday evening at Kanapaha Park when the attack occurred.

Cabin Door Pops Open During Flight


Passengers had a terrifying moment when a cabin door blew open at 500 feet during a Boston-to-Nantucket flight, but the airline said no one was in danger because the cabin wasn't pressurized.
