Scientists Find Ancient Brewery in Peru
Here's an archaeological discovery that the average guy at the end of the bar can appreciate: An ancient brewery. A team of scientists from Chicago's Field Museum in July uncovered a brewery in the mountains of southern Peru where members of the Wari Empire made an alcoholic beer-like drink called chicha more than 1,000 years ago.

Man charged with meth manufacture after pants explode
A Walker County man was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine after his pants exploded while he was talking to social services workers outside his home.
Daniel Gabriel Doyle, 39, met the social workers at his front door Tuesday, walked to their car and sat down to fill out some forms, said Patrick Stanfield, commander of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.

Gene Therapy Pioneer Anderson Arrested
Accused of Molesting Girl
Gene therapy pioneer Dr. William French Anderson was arrested Friday on charges he sexually molested a girl he had coached in karate, authorities said.
Anderson, 67, an internationally prominent University of Southern California scientist, was arrested at his San Marino home one day after prosecutors filed a criminal complaint, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

DOOM 3 early?
Is it possible that DOOM 3 could be out today ?
Many GameStop stores in the Southern California area have confirmed that they should be getting their shipments of DOOM 3 on July 31, at least three days ahead of the scheduled Aug. 3 ship date announced by id and Activision (and four days ahead of GameStop original Aug. 4 date). This is based on the new dates showing up in their computers. A few readers on the East Coast of the United States also confirmed the GameStop dates at their local stores.

Hackers plan global game of 'capture the flag'
If everything goes as planned, for 72 hours next February hackers from all over the United States will hit targets across the Internet in the largest mass attack to date.
But the affected systems won't be corporate Web servers or networks, they'll be computers set up and maintained by other hackers as part of a capture-the-flag game. When the digital dust clears, the team from either the East Coast or the West Coast will be named winner.

Woman charged after pre-dawn golf cart ride
A woman who took a golf cart for a pre-dawn spin was charged with drunken driving after being spotted swerving on a street, police said Friday.
At 5 a.m., a dispatcher fielded a call reporting a woman driving a golf cart down the middle of Moss Mill Road, but Patrolman Richard Barber, who responded, couldn't find her.

Dentist pleads guilty in aiding naked motorcycle ride
You may no longer need a helmet to ride a motorcycle in Pennsylvania, but police in central Pennsylvania say clothes would be nice. They've charged a dentist with disorderly conduct for driving with a naked woman on the back of his bike. The woman faces more serious charges for allegedly lashing out at police after her arrest.

This would be known as the ‘essence of the problem.’ When the physical aspects of the damage to the Pentagon are compared to what should logically happen when a large, passenger airplane hits a building, they do not reconcile. Simply imposing a graphic of a plane, to scale on the Pentagon, even a half an hour after it hit, is enough to show that it would be quite hard for it not to make more damage to the entry point. Now, when we take the same sense of scale from above and make the attempt to mentally place it in the picture on the following page, any logic that exists should be enough to tell Houston, or wherever, that we’ve got a problem.

Girl hit with Taser was combative, police reports say
A 9-year-old handcuffed girl was swearing, thrashing and attempting to kick out a patrol car window when a South Tucson police sergeant used a stun gun to subdue her, according to police reports released Thursday.
