US Soldiers taking money & property?


The US has been accused by a human rights organization to be taking money and property from civilian homes during raids.

In the last 14 months the US has conducted thousands of raids on homes all across Iraq. It is routine to seize money, jewelry, and other valuable property from resistance suspects.

Congressional Accountability for Judicial Activism Act of 2004

To allow Congress to reverse the judgments of the United States Supreme Court.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

  This Act may be cited as the `Congressional Accountability for Judicial Activism Act of 2004'.

SEC. 2. CONGRESSIONAL REVERSAL OF SUPREME COURT JUDGMENTS.

  The Congress may, if two thirds of each House agree, reverse a judgment of the United States Supreme Court--

        (1) if that judgment is handed down after the date of the enactment of this Act; and

        (2) to the extent that judgment concerns the constitutionality of an Act of Congress. <P></P>

Neue Hightech-Zigarettenautomaten gegen minderjährige Raucher


Die Vorarlberger Regierung hat die Strafen für den Verkauf von Zigaretten an unter 16-Jährige verschärft. Beim Verkauf von Zigaretten an unter 16-Jährige drohen Strafen bis zu 5.000 €.

Um auch bei Zigarettenautomaten den Verkauf von Zigaretten an Minderjährige zu stoppen, werden demnächst Hightech-Automaten erscheinen, die vor dem Verkauf eine gültige Bankomatkarte verlangen, um das darauf gespeicherte Alter zu kontrollieren.

Sherpa's record climb


Kathmandu: A Nepalese Sherpa has broken the speed record for climbing Mount Everest by more than two hours, reaching the summit just over eight hours after leaving base camp, officials said today.

Has Rumsfeld Banned Camera Phones in Iraq?


Lots of media outlets have been reporting that Rumsfeld has decided to ban camera phones in Iraq, in the wake of the photos of prisoner abuse coming out of Abu Ghraib.

The Sydney Morning Herald refers to some British newspaper called The Business. But what's that? Is there such a paper? The story actually seems to come from The Daily Farce, an online satirical magazine who printed the story (as a joke) about two weeks ago.

Deutsche Telekom acquires US mobile networks


Deutsche Telekom plans to splash out $2.5bn (£1.4bn) to acquire mobile phone networks in California and Nevada. The networks in question were jointly own by T-Mobile USA and the US mobile communications company, Cingular Wireless, following a deal back in 2001.

University Cancels Annual Pornfest


One of the rites of spring is canceled at Western Washington University -- the annual Pornfest.

Officials have decided to pull the plug on the Pornfest after 12 years. The school had come under fire for allowing activities like a condom hunt and a self-gratification information booth.
