Volcanologists spy pink 'dinosaur' on remote webcam

New Zealand's Geological and Nuclear Sciences (GNS) has installed a digital camera in the crater of a volcano which makes up most of White Island in the Bay of Plenty, east of Auckland.

CCTV goes wi-fi to fight crime

In the UK there is one CCTV camera for every 14 people. If you are in London, you could be caught on camera up to 300 times a day. But the cameras are expensive, and once you have installed one, and laid all the wires back to base, it is fixed and cannot move.

Windows 95 makes it to Pocket PC

Thanks to Miracle and ceasar54 for writing in with the news that a member has got both Windows 95 and Windows 98 SE running on his Asus PPC.

This was made possible by a Pocket PC port of Bochs, by Mamaich, who has also ported DosBox, a "program similar to Bochs but it's a lot faster and only emulates DOS". Sadly, the author tried and failed to get WarLords II working on both these versions, but I'm sure time will tell!

If you're keen to try this on your own Pocket PC, you'll need a minimum of a 256MB memory card (or stream the image over a wireless network) and you'll need a program like Nyditot Virtual Display to increase your screen resolution. Oh, yes, and you'll also need the emulator.

Fahrenheit 9/11 wins the Palme D'Or!!!

Last night, the jury here at the 57th Cannes Film Festival awarded the Palme D'Or, one of the highest honors in filmmaking, to Fahrenheit 9/11. Michael and everyone who worked on the film were completely blown away. Four of the nine festival jury members were American, and only one of the jurors was French. Fahrenheit 9/11 is the first documentary to win the Palme since Jacques Cousteau's "The Silent World" in 1956.
