Sonic Youth's "silence" only 99 cents LOL
Apple Computer's iTunes Music Store, where users download songs for 99 cents, was refusing to sell the track called "Silence," which is 63-seconds of dead air, on its own. Users could download it only by buying the entire 1995 album called "The Whitey Album," which was released under the name Ciccone Youth, a side project of the alternative rock band.

A German student has admitted giving his unwitting teachers hash cake so strong they ended up in hospital.
The 19-year-old, identified only as Ole, has volunteered to spend 10 days working at a hospital in his home town of Lueneburg, northern Germany.

Alphabetical zoo killer terrorises Brazil
Brazilian police are fighting a desperate battle against time to save the lives of thousands of animals threatened by a merciless serial killer.
Since 24 January, Sao Paulo zoo has lost three chimapanzees, three tapirs, a trio of camels and an elephant. All apparently succumbed to rat poison.

Pot Advocates Spread Seeds On City Hall Lawn
Medical marijuana advocates spread pot seeds on the lawn of City Hall to protest a proposal to tighten restrictions on what have been called "Oaksterdam" cannabis clubs.
Two dozen self-described medical marijuana patients dressed in gardening attire took part in the demonstration Sunday in Frank Ogawa Plaza.

Auf Symantecs FireWall/VPN Appliance 200 soll einem Posting auf der Mailingliste Full Disclosure zufolge der Webzugriff auf die Administrationsoberfläche mit einem Passwort in Klartext erfolgen. Bei der Eingabe erscheint statt der gewohnten Sternchen das lesbare Passwort. Damit wird es auch im Browser-Cache abgelegt und kann später wieder aufgerufen werden. Zudem erfolgt die Kommunikation nicht über https, womit das übertragene Passwort auch von einem Netzwerk-Sniffer mitlesbar ist.

One of the main border crossings between Canada and the US was closed when border guards found a hand grenade in a vehicle heading into Canada.
The Peace Arch border crossing between Seattle and Vancouver was shut to all traffic in a major alert.

The Hastings man judged the world's second-best air guitarist yesterday admitted drink-driving twice in six weeks.
Toby Wiremu Pureku Peneha pleaded guilty in Napier District Court to two charges of driving with an excess blood alcohol level after an arrest warrant was issued last month.

Space scientists revealed today that they have found the biggest known diamond in the universe.
It is 4,000 km across and weighs 2.27 million trillion trillion kg, which translates to about 10 billion trillion trillion carats, or a one followed by 34 zeros.

Farmer takes 7 years to build helicopter from scratch
With directions from the Internet and an old Russian truck motor, a Vietnamese farmer fulfilled his dream of making his own helicopter. The job took two friends, seven years and $30,000.
Now, military officials say he can't fly it, because he didn't get approval to build it, and they confiscated the makeshift copter.
