THE SIMPSONS Movie Is Underway


After much weeping and gnashing of teeth by fans, THE SIMPSONS may finally hit the silver screen.

SIMPSONS creator Matt Groening and longtime partner James L. Brooks have commissioned a team of writers to begin developing a story for a film based on the modern classic. Apparently work has been progressing for months. Details are only emerging now due to writer Mike Reiss' interview with DVDFanatic.com.

Google spurns RSS for rising blog format


Google's Blogger service is bypassing Really Simple Syndication in favor of an alternative technology, a move that has sparked more discord in a bitter dispute over Web log syndication formats.

The search giant, which acquired Blogger.com last year, began allowing the service's million-plus members to syndicate their online diaries to other Web sites last month. To implement the feature, it chose the new Atom format instead of the widely used, older RSS.

Taliban, Al Qaeda Cash in on Afghan Opium


Hundreds of millions of dollars a year from Afghanistan's illicit drug trade end up in the pockets of Islamic militant groups like the Taliban and al Qaeda, the head of the U.N. drug-fighting body said Tuesday. U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Executive Director Antonio Maria Costa also said there were no signs of the country's rampant opium output abating this year, meaning Afghanistan was in grave danger of becoming a narco-state.
