Shit! Die Wahrheit liegt auf dem Gehsteig!
Ich war noch keine zwei Tage in der Stadt, da hab ich bei einem Spaziergang durch das East Village mit einer in New York ansässigen Wienerin über die verschiedenen Stadtpsychologien sinniert. Warum scheinen die Menschen hier auf den Straßen des "Big Apple" viel besser "drauf" zu sein als vergleichsweise in Wien? Trotz latenter Terrorgefahr und allgemein schlechterer Lebensbedingungen?

Gletscher schmelzen im Rekordtempo
Die Gletscher in den Schweizer Alpen zerfließen schneller als jemals in den vergangenen 120 Jahren. Kein Einziger der Eisriesen blieb vom Schrumpfprozess verschont, wie Messungen der vergangenen zwei Jahren ergaben.

Europäer wollen 2024 auf den Mond und 2030 zum Mars
Die europäische Raumfahrtagentur Esa lässt sich nicht lumpen. Trotz Beagle-Fehlschlags soll in 26 Jahren der erste Europäer den Mars betreten. Vorher, im Jahr 2024, wird laut Planung der Mond europäisiert. Die Finanzierung des ehrgeizigen Projekts steht allerdings noch in den Sternen.

Vier Buchstaben nur, aber jeder Internet-Nutzer kennt sie - und hasst sie: Spam. Die unerwünschten Werbe-E-Mails versprechen Wunderdiäten, Potenzmittel und Billigkredite und verstopfen weltweit die elektronischen Postfächer. Damit der virtuelle Müllberg im E-Mail-Programm wenigstens irgendeinen Sinn erfüllt, haben Weblogger jetzt einen neuen Trend ausgerufen: Aus Spam wird Kunst. Die Neo-Poeten zerlegen die obskuren Werbeslogans und basteln daraus noch obskurere Gedichte - die Lyrik der Zukunft?

Since about ten years Theo Jansen is occupied with the making of a new nature. Not pollen or seeds but plastic yellow tubes are used as the basic matierial of this new nature. He makes skeletons which are able to walk on the wind. Eventualy he wants to put these animals out in herds on the beaches, so they will live their own lives.

NEC's Card-Sized Mobile Phone
NEC Corp, in an interview with Nikkei BP's Beijing Bureau, has revealed the details of its credit card-sized, ultra-small mobile phone now being developed. Initially, the prototype of this small mobile phone, the "N900," was introduced on Oct 28, 2003 in an announcement in Shanghai of new products for the Chinese market.
