A CIAreport concludes that ordinary Iraqis increasingly are siding with the insurgency amid doubts about the U.S. ability to stamp it out, officials said on Wednesday, while the U.S. administrator in Iraq said it was hard to figure out where the Iraqi public stands.

NYC woman married 27 times in immigration
A woman who was accused of accepting money to marry 27 illegal immigrants so they could get residency and work permits pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of filing a false instrument.
Dezerrie Cortes, 40, had been charged with perjury and falsifying business records. In exchange for a plea deal that will get her six months in jail and 4 1/2 years' probation, she admitted lying Jan. 8, 2000, on an application for a licence to marry a man from India, saying she had never been married before, prosecutors said.

'Skittling' New Drug Of Choice For Some Teens
A new trend among young Californians has them getting high from an over-the-counter cold remedy that looks a lot like candy. It's so popular that it even has its own name -- "Skittling." Children call the cold medicine Coricidin "Skittles," "red devils" or "crazy eights" because they come eight to a pack. Doctors say children take the red pills because they make the young people feel -- at the very least -- drunk.

Cannabis passes last legal hurdle
Cannabis will be downgraded to a Class C "non-arrestable" drug on 29 January.
The reform to the Criminal Justice Bill was rubber-stamped by the House of Lords last night.

Linux soll auf dem Desktop "erblühen"
Nachdem das freie Betriebsystem Linux auf Servern bereits großflächig Einzug gehalten hat, soll Linux nun auch auf dem Desktop verstärkt zum Einsatz kommen.
Bei der "Desktop Linux Conference" Anfang der Woche legten dazu etliche Hersteller ihre Pläne dar.
