Tanker Truck Shut Down Via Satellite
"Satellite Security Systems, in cooperation with the California Highway Patrol and InterState Oil Company, demonstrated the first wireless remote shutdown of a fully loaded, moving gas tanker truck. Described as "a viable solution to the challenge of controlling rogue hazardous waste vehicles that could pose a threat to homeland security," satellite communications were used to disable the truck in seconds, 530 miles from the demonstration site.

Neue Longhorn-Grafikfunktionen werden Flash-Killer genannt
Microsofts neues Grafik- und Animations-Toolset mit dem Codenamen "Sparkle" soll in Microsofts .Net-Runtime-Umgebung integriert werden. Mit diesen Worten zitiert der Service internetnews.com Software-Entwickler, die mit Microsofts Programmier-Abteilung in Verbindung stehen. Die neuen Tools würden im Endeffekt den Tod für Flash- und Director-Animationen bedeuten, wenn Longhorn sich im Markt durchsetzt.

Hintertür in den falschen Linux-Kernel eingebaut
Ein Versuch, eine Hintertür in den Linux-Kernel einzuschleusen, ist gescheitert. Zwar gelang es einem Unbekannten, im CVS-Baum des Kernels in die Datei kernel/exit.c zwei Zeilen Code einzufügen. Dieser ist jedoch nur ein Export der Master-Kernel-Quellen -- diese werden nicht im CVS, sondern mit der Versionsverwaltung Bitkeeper gepflegt.

Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) has a weakness: poorly chosen short human-readable passphrases can be cracked with a robust dictionary attack offline and without access to the network: Robert Moskowitz, the senior techncial director of TruSecure Corp.'s ICSA Labs, has given me permission to post this paper he has written that describes a weakness in the interface design for WPA-equipped access points and adapters.

Rizla releases papers lighter than human hair
The firm, which spent 26,208 man hours developing the Silver Slim King Size papers, says each of the leaves measures 20 microns and features a watermark.
A spokesman for Rizla said the ultra-thin papers which have been exhaustively tested for strength, can be smoked outside.

Neuer Musikriese vor Gründung
Die Konzerne Sony und Bertelsmann haben sich einem Zeitungsbericht zufolge über die Bündelung ihrer Musiksparten BMG und Sony Music geeinigt.
Wie die "New York Post" vorab meldete, wollen die beiden Konzerne ihren Plan, ein Gemeinschaftsunternehmen zu gründen, noch heute bekannt geben.
Sowohl BMG-Chef Rolf Schmidt-Holtz als auch Sony-Music-Chairman Andrew Lack würden in der neuen Gesellschaft Führungspositionen einnehmen, hieß es in dem Bericht.
