Der Köder kommt per E-Mail: Die offiziell anmutende Botschaft fordert Kunden dazu auf, dringend die Website eines Unternehmens zu besuchen, bei dem man Kunde ist. Dort darf man sich dann wie gewohnt einloggen - nur, dass sich hinter der Log-in-Seite manchmal eben nicht das Unternehmen des Vertrauens verbirgt.

Microsoft bringt Sprachsteuerung für PDAs und Smartphones
Microsoft gab am heutigen Montag ein Software-Addon zur Sprachsteuerung für sein Pocket-PC-Betriebssystem in den Versionen für PDAs und Smartphones frei. Eine sprecherunabhängige Spracheingabe steuert bei Voice Command beispielsweise die Termin- und Adressverwaltung, Telefonfunktionen wie Nummernwahl aus dem Adressbuch heraus sowie eventuell vorhandene Medienplayer.

Belgian man saves fish with kiss of life
A former ambulance driver has put his first aid skills to good use at a weekend birthday party by reviving one of his pond fish with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, a local newspaper says.
And Leo Van Aert is so happy about having saved the life of his cherished koi that he wants to name it after one of his grandchildren, the Gazet Van Antwerpen said on Tuesday.

Dead Sea Drying Up, Israeli Study Warns
The Dead Sea gets its name from its heavy salt content, because no aquatic creatures can live in it. Now there's a new "death threat" the Dead Sea is drying up and disappearing.
An Israeli TV reporter, illustrating the government report, stood on a spot where, just 20 years ago, water met land. Now that point is 2,000 feet of parched ground away, he said, as the sea gradually recedes.

Bundesweit tönen täglich die etwa 40 gleichen Titel aus dem Radio. Das, glaubt die Aktion Rotationsverbot, sei ein Grund für die Krise der Musikindustrie - und eine Qual für die Hörer. Sie fordert die "Radioquote" - und Applaus kommt sogar von Radioproduzenten und Plattenbossen.

Investors who rely for advice on Forbes, the highly regarded American business magazine, will be tipped off this month about the industry that is now outpacing many others in North America: marijuana growing.
The magazine's cover story focuses on "the unstoppable economics of a booming business" and claims marijuana is now Canada's most valuable agricultural product, ahead of wheat, cattle and timber.

Umstrittener Rettungsversuch
Einst der viertgrößte See der Welt, heute auf weniger als ein Zehntel dezimiert: Der Aralsee gilt als größtes Umweltverbrechen des Sowjetregimes. Seit Jahrzehnten trocknet er aus, weil das Wasser der Zuflüsse zur Bewässerung von gigantomanischen Projekten der Stalin-Ära abgeleitet wurde. Der in Mittelasien gelegene See ist längst in zwei Teile zerfallen, wovon nur der kleinere nördliche Teil durch Staudämme gerettet werden soll. Der südliche Aralsee schwindet weiter, was einen Klimawandel mit sich bringt und Salzwüsten hinterlässt.

Die auditive Wende
Im Zuge der industriellen Moderne wurde der Mensch auditiv so überfordert, dass der Hörsturz - dem Duden zufolge eine plötzliche, meist einseitig auftretende Hörverschlechterung, die bis zur akuten Ertaubung führen kann - zur Zivilisationskrankheit avanciert ist. Eine Entwicklung, die Grund genug ist, um den Titel einer wissenschaftlichen Tagung rund um das Thema Ohr zu stiften. Das finden jedenfalls Nicola Gess, Florian Schreiner und Manuela Schulz, die Organisatoren von Hörstürze.

In Jerusalem steht ein 23-Jähriger vor Gericht, weil er erfolgreich eine Webseite des Mossad gehackt hat. Er gibt an, er habe nur überprüfen wollen, ob seine Bewerbungsdaten bei dem Geheimdienst auch sicher seien. Offenbar nicht.

In der Vollmondnacht auf kommenden Sonntag wird sich der Mond auch bei Schönwetter nicht durchgehend als makellose Silberscheibe zeigen: Für etwa 25 Minuten tritt der Erdtrabant vollständig in den Erdschatten - und gleicht dann einer kupferroten Scheibe.

Olga Neuwirth's Lost Highway Pulls Into Graz
In August 2002, Neuwirth was given an e-mail address to contact Lynch, and she wrote, asking for the rights to adapt Lost Highway's screenplay. She was startled when both Lynch and Gifford granted permission with virtually no strings attached: they asked merely to be invited to the premiere. (Gifford will attend; Lynch's phobia over flying grounds him in Los Angeles.) "It's amazing that they just gave up the rights," said the composer, "It seems so Kafkaesque." The complete script, including long portions which were never shot and included in the film, was gathered from Lynch's garage and sent to Neuwirth and Jelinek. They fashioned the libretto using large sections of the screenplay verbatim. "We had to cut the word 'fuck' a lot, because it's very hard to sing," laughed Neuwirth.

Former Lakers superstar Earvin "Magic" Johnson Sunday signed a lifetime contract with the Harlem Globetrotters, the team announced.
But the NBA Hall of Fame forward won't be getting rich off his new job, he'll be getting $1 a year, said team owner and chairman Mannie Jackson.
