Production Begins on the Ultimate Reality Show,
'Can You be a Porn Star?'
Spinning the wheels of imagination for a genre that has created an entire generation of voyeurs, New York-based Silhouette Productions has announced the start of principal photography in Los Angeles on an audacious pay-per-view reality series, "Can You Be A Porn Star?" The first of seven one-hour shows will be broadcast by iN DEMAND Networks and likely other soon-to-be-announced PPV outlets on Thursday, January 8, with new episodes airing every other Thursday climaxing with a 90-minute grand finale.

Milky Way welcomes its closest galactic neighbor by eating it
An international team of astronomers has found a previously unknown galaxy colliding with our own Milky Way.
Called the Canis Major dwarf galaxy after the constellation in which it lies, the star grouping is about 25,000 light-years away from our Solar System.
The new galaxy is shown in red ¬> bbc ¬> newscientist

What's Google Really Worth?
Informed speculation says Google will issue an initial $1 billion worth of shares, which would represent what analysts think is about a year's worth of sales. That's a huge deal considering how unfriendly the IPO climate remains for tech concerns. The more enthusiastic sorts on Wall Street say an IPO may be worth as much as $25 billion, based mainly on a comparison with successful Web giants, such as Yahoo!, Amazon, and eBay. Other experts respond that such an appraisal is wishful thinking.

Red Hat pulls plugs on Red Hat Linux product line
Red Hat yesterday unveiled its answer to the vexed question of what it should do about its consumer line - dump it. This is not quite how CEO Matthew Szulik put it to The Register over lunch yesterday, nor indeed did he say flat out 'oh, by the way, we're shooting the Red Hat Linux distribution when North Carolina wakes up, bye now,' but that is indeed what the company did.

Japan team claims Net speed record
A research team from Japan claims to have achieved the world record speed in data transmission using Internet protocols.
The team, comprising scientists from Keio University and divisions of Japan's largest telcoms firm NTT, achieved a speed of 43 gigabits per second over an optical network between two campuses of Keio several kilometers apart.

A mysterious transmission that baffled British intelligence analysts for days
was caused by a ram rubbing up against an aerial mast, a government agency said Tuesday. Scientists at Government Communications Headquarters in Cheltenham, western England, an intelligence-gathering station, were baffled by strange high-frequency noises coming from Scarborough signal station in Yorkshire, northeastern England.
