Oslo police send 15,000 SMS text messages in bid to reduce violence


The young adults, aged 20 to 35, each received an SMS from police that read: "You who are young and who plan to go out tonight, don't become the victim of a pickpocket or assault. Be careful, mind your wallet, your mobile phone and your friends. Cheers. The Oslo Police."

LSD sickens three children at elementary school


LSD mixed with a commercial breath freshener sickened at least three students at an elementary school in Los Angeles on Wednesday, police said Friday. Police said they do not know why the breath freshener was spiked with LSD, but they are investigating.

Alligator gets loose in airliner baggage compartment


An alligator was captured inside the baggage hold of an airliner on Monday after escaping from its crate. The young alligator, just 4 to 5 feet long, remained inside a burlap bag with its mouth bound shut, American Airlines spokesman Tim Wagner said.

Big Brother's next weapon: Tracking your letters with microchip stamps


Sending an anonymous love letter or an angry note to your congressman? The U.S. Postal Service will soon know who you are.

Beginning with bulk or commercial mail, the Postal Service will require "enhanced sender identification" for all discount-rate mailings, according to the notice published in the Oct. 21 Federal Register. The purpose of identifying senders is to provide a more efficient tracking system, but more importantly, to "facilitate investigations into the origin of suspicious mail."
