Frequent Search Engine Users, Google Is Watching and Counting
The Web search service Google has quietly started placing a counter on its home page for a small number of its most frequent users.
Most Google users do not have it, but a select few now have a no-frills counter that with each search clicks higher, noting "You have done 479 searches," or whatever the actual number.

In Afghanistan geht die Gewalt gegen Frauen auch nach dem Sturz der Taliban unvermindert weiter. In einem Bericht kritisiert die Menschenrechtsorganisation amnesty international, dass sich in dem Land die Lage der Frauen seitdem trotz gegenteiliger Versprechen der Weltgemeinschaft kaum verbessert habe. "Die Situation ist unakzeptabel und verlangt dringend nach Aktion", heißt es. Diskriminierung und Gewalt seien noch immer "weit verbreitet".

A German man has been arrested after smashing up two police cars with a stolen tractor in a low-speed car chase.
The incident occurred in the western town of Montabaur late on Sunday, after the 37-year-old man had an argument with his girlfriend.

IBM debuts hard drive 'airbag' crash protection
IBM today debuted a new hard drive system designed to prevent data damage when the notebook is dropped. The technology, dubbed the IBM Active Protection System (APS), will appear in new ThinkPad R50 and T41 series machines.

The American Billboard singles chart top 10 is made up exclusively of tunes from black artists for the first time.
Nine of the ten are rappers, plus one track by R&B singer Beyonce and reggae star Sean Paul.

Spritzer A spritzer is a tall, chilled drink, usually made with white wine and soda water.
The word comes from the German spritzen "sprinkle", i.e. adding water and thus diluting the wine so that it can be consumed in larger, thirst-quenching, amounts without the negative effects of alcohol.
