U.S. Supplied Germs to Iraq in '80s
Iraq's bioweapons program that President Bush ( news - web sites) wants to eradicate got its start with help from Uncle Sam two decades ago, according to government records getting new scrutiny in light of the discussion of war against Iraq. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ( news - web sites) sent samples directly to several Iraqi sites that U.N. weapons inspectors determined were part of Saddam Hussein ( news - web sites)'s biological weapons program, CDC and congressional records from the early 1990s show. Iraq had ordered the samples, claiming it needed them for legitimate medical research.

Man breaks record by clipping 153 clothes pegs to his face
Garry "Stretch" Turner smashed his previous record by 20 pegs in front of amazed onlookers in York. The feat took place at WH Smith's store in the city to celebrate the launch of the Guinness Book of Records 2003.

Pot factory to be first in Canada, group says
Adefiant group of British Columbians is to announce later today the official opening of what they call Canada's first marijuana factory, posing a direct and highly visible challenge to federal marijuana laws. The facility on a street of rundown homes in a Vancouver suburb is set up to process a crop of 110 marijuana plants, from cuttings or seeds, into moist dark pellets that dissolve easily in olive oil or butter. The pellets, which contain concentrated doses of marijuana's psychoactive ingredient tetrahydrocannabinol, are called THC balls.

Die Party-Droge schädigt das Gehirn. Feste feiern und dabei ein paar bunte Pillen einwerfen - für manche Jugendlichen scheint daran nichts Schlimmes zu sein. Doch auch wenn Ecstasy auf den ersten Blick keine schädliche Wirkung zeigt, ist die Droge alles andere als harmlos.

Ab Dienstag müssen das Rote Kreuz, die Wasser-, die Berg- und die Höhlenrettung ohne eine Alarmierung per Pager auskommen. Die Mobilkom schaltet ihr Pager-Netz ab, es rentiert sich nicht mehr. In Zukunft werden die Retter per SMS alarmiert.

Michigan man sentenced for having sex with pumpkin
A Warren man who walked nude in his back yard and was spotted by neighbors using a pumpkin to sexually gratify himself was sentenced this week to 90 days in jail for indecent exposure. Bill Saintclair Patton, 45, was jailed on an unrelated domestic violence charge when he was brought to 37th District Court on Tuesday for the 2-year-old indecent exposure case.
